Origan / Greece
Oregano (origanum vulgaris) is perhaps the most widely-used herbs in Western cuisine, particularly in Southern Europe, and is also important in the Middle East, Latin America and the Philippines. It has a piney intensity and is more aromatic than marjoram. It is very versatile; great with meats, seafood, oil and vinegar combinations, vegetables, salads, rich and spicy foods in general, and, of course, in tomato sauce. Oregano is also important medicinally for its powerful antioxidant and antimicrobial properties.
